This year’s Kids In Need Foundation Gala was held at The Depot in Minneapolis, Minnesota on September 11.  Fibre-Craft was proud to sponsor the Teacher of the Year award, which acknowledges teachers who received grants to fund exceptional projects that engage their students in learning.

For the past eleven years, the Kids In Need Teacher Grants program has awarded funds to teachers to conduct innovative projects in their classrooms.  Kindergarten through 12th grade teachers are eligible to apply for grants of up to $500.  A total of $1 million has been awarded since 1997.

Each year, the members of the Teacher Grants Committee read the applications of thousands of teachers.  The projects funded are those of teachers who create exciting learning experiences for their students through projects that, if not for the Kids In Need Foundation, would have to be paid for by the teachers with money out of their own pockets.

This year the Kids In Need Foundation honored two teachers not only for their knowledge and the expertise they bring to the classroom, but also for the way they engage their students in learning.  Yvette McDaniel, a seventh grade Science teacher at Crestwood Middle School in West Palm Beach, Florida, and Tammy Haggerty Jones, a third grade Social Studies teacher at Strassburg School in Sauk Village, Illinois were recognized and presented with the award.

Fibre-Craft is honored to be part of this organization and looks forward to remaining a sponsor in the future.
