SPECIAL STITCH: js (jump stitch): Draw up a lp in next st of previous row, below the row you are working - 2 lps now on hook, yo and draw through both lps on hook. Do not work in the current row behind js. This will create the zigzag pattern on dress.



DRESS

BODICE
Starting at neck edge, with red and size G hook (or size required for gauge), ch 17.
ROW 1 (right side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each rem ch across (16 sc). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 2: Work 2 sc in each sc across (32 sc). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 3: Sc in each sc across (32 sc). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 4: Sc in first sc, * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc; rep from * across to last sc, 2 sc in last sc (48 sc). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 5: Sc in each sc across (48 sc). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 6 (armhole shaping): Sc in first 7 sc, ch 4, sk next 10 sc (for left armhole - fold skipped sts away from you), sc in next 14 sc, ch 4, sk next 10 sc (for right armhole - fold skipped sts away from you), sc in last 7 sc (28 sc). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 7: Sc in each sc and ch across (36 sc). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 8: Sc in each sc across (36 sc). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 9: Sc in first 6 sc, dec over next 2 sc (to dec, draw up a lp in each of next 2 sc - 3 lps now on hook, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook), sc in next 2 sc, * dec over next 2 sc, sc in next 3 sc; rep from * twice more, dec over next 2 sc, sc in next 2 sc, dec over next 2 sc, sc in last 5 sc (30 sc). Ch 1, turn.
ROWS 10-14: Sc in each sc across (30 sc). Ch 1, turn. At end of Row 14, ch 3 (in place of ch 1), turn.

SKIRT
ROW 15: Dc in first sc, * 2 dc in next sc, dc in next sc; rep from * across to last sc, 2 dc in last sc (45 dc - not counting beg ch-3). Finish off, DO NOT turn.
ROW 16: With right side still facing you, rejoin red with a sl st in top of ch-3 at beg of previous row, ch 3, * dc in each of next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * across (60 dc - not counting beg ch-3). Finish off, DO NOT turn.
ROW 17: With right side facing you, rejoin red with a sl st in top of ch-3 at beg of previous row, ch 3, * dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * across (75 dc). Finish off, DO NOT turn.
ROW 18: With right side facing you, rejoin red in top of ch-3 at beg of previous row, ch 3, dc in each dc across (75 dc), JOIN with a sl st in top of beg ch-3 (to close back opening). Ch 3, do not turn.
(Note: From now on, you will be working in rnds instead of rows.)
RND 19: * Dc in next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * around, join (as before) (90 dc). Ch 3, do not turn.

RND 33 (ruffle): * (Sl st, ch 4) twice in next dc, (sl st, ch 4) in next dc; rep from * around, join in beg ch-4 lp. Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 34: Sc in same lp as joining, ch 3, (sc, ch 3) in each rem ch-4 lp around, join to first sc. Finish off and weave in ends.

SLEEVES (make 2)
With right side facing you, join red with a sl st in 3rd ch at underarm, ch 1.
RND 1: Sc in same ch as joining and next ch, sc in next 10 sc around top of armhole (skipped sts from Bodice Row 6), sc in rem 2 chs at underarm, join with a sl st in beg sc (14 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.
RNDS 2-9: Sc in same sc as joining and each rem sc around, join (as before) (14 sc). Ch 1, do not turn. At end of Rnd 9, ch 4, do not turn.
RND 10 (ruffle): Sk joining sc, (sl st, ch 4) in each rem sc around, join in beg ch-4 lp (14 ch-4 lps).  Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 11: Rep Skirt Bottom Ruffle Rnd 34.

NECK EDGING
With right side facing you, join red with a sl st in first ch at left back neck edge of bodice, ch 1. Sc in same ch as joining, * ch 2, sc in next ch; rep from * across neck edge (15 ch-2 lps). Finish off and weave in ends. Set dress aside.

DRESS FINISHING
STEP 1: Sew 4 sets hooks and eyes to back bodice opening: one set just below neck edging, one set at waist and 2 sets evenly spaced between.
STEP 2 (belt loops (make 2)): With red, leaving a 2 in. beg length (for attaching to dress), ch 4. Finish off leaving a 2 in. end. Attach one belt lp to each side of bodice as follows: pull one 2 in. yarn end to wrong side between sc row and dc row at waist. Pull other 2 in. end of same lp through st in 3rd row directly above. Secure ends on inside and trim. Place a 1-yard length of 3/8 in. black satin ribbon through belt lps. Pull ends even at center back, but do not tie. Set dress aside.

SLIP
Starting at waist edge, with white, ch 30, join with a sl st in beg ch to form a ring (being careful not to twist ch), ch 1.
RND 1 (right side): Sc in same ch as joining and each rem ch around, join with a sl st in beg sc (30 sc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 2: Hdc in same sc as joining and next sc, 2 hdc in next sc, * hdc in each of next 2 sc, 2 hdc in next sc; rep from * around, join with a sl st in top of beg ch-2 (40 hdc - not counting beg ch-2). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 3: * Hdc in next 3 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around, join (as before) (50 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 4: * Hdc in next 4 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around, join (60 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 5: * Hdc in next 5 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around, join (70 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 6: * Hdc in next 6 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around, join (80 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 7: * Hdc in next 7 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around, join (90 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 8: Hdc in next 4 hdc, * 2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next 8 hdc; rep from * around to last 5 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in last 4 hdc, join (100 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 9: * Hdc in next 9 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around, join (110 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 10: * Hdc in next 10 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around, join (120 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 11: * Hdc in next 11 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around, join (130 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 12: Hdc in next 6 hdc, * 2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next 12 hdc; rep from * around to last 7 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in last 6 hdc, join (140 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 13: * Hdc in next 13 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around, join (150 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 14: * Hdc in next 14 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around, join (160 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 15: Hdc in next 7 hdc, * 2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next 15 hdc; rep from * around to last 9 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in last 8 hdc, join (170 hdc).  Ch 4, do not turn.
RND 16 (ruffle): Work 2 trc in each hdc around, join with a sl st in top of beg ch-4 (340 trc - not counting beg ch 4). Ch 4, do not turn.
RNDS 17-19: Trc in each trc around, join (as before) (340 trc). Ch 4, do not turn. At end of Rnd 19, ch 1 (in place of ch 4), do not turn.
RND 20: Sc in next trc, * ch 4, sk next trc, sc in next trc; rep from * around to last trc, ch 4, sk last trc, join with a sl st in beg sc. Finish off and weave in ends.

SLIP FINISHING
Starting and ending on outside center back, with tapestry needle, weave a 12 in. piece of white yarn through all sc of Rnd 1 at waist. Put slip on doll with waist edge slightly above doll's waist. Pull yarn ends up tightly and tie in small bow. Dress doll and tie ribbon into a small bow at center back of waist. Trim ribbon ends on angle.

CAPE
Starting at neck edge, with red, ch 27.
ROW 1 (right side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each rem ch across (26 sc). Using a small safety pin or piece of contrasting yarn, mark ch where last sc was just worked (for starting hood later). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 2: Sc in first sc, * hdc in each of next 2 sc, 2 hdc in next sc; rep from * across to last sc, sc in last sc (34 sts). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 3: Sc in first sc, * hdc in next 3 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * across to last sc, sc in last sc (42 sts). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 4: Sc in first sc, * hdc in next 4 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * across to last sc, sc in last sc (50 sts). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 5: Sc in first sc, * hdc in next 5 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * across to last sc, sc in last sc (58 sts). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 6: Sc in first sc, hdc in each hdc across to last sc, sc in last sc (58 sts). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 7: Sc in first sc, * hdc in next 6 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * across to last sc, sc in last sc (66 sts). Ch 1, turn.
ROWS 8-9: Sc in first sc, hdc in each hdc across to last sc, sc in last sc (66 sts). Ch 1, turn.
ROWS 10-12: Sc in first 2 sts, hdc in each hdc across to last 2 sts, sc in last 2 sts (66 sts). Ch 1, turn. At end of Row 12, do not ch 1. Finish off.

HOOD
With right side facing you, join red with a sl st in marked ch at right front neck edge (remove marker), ch 1.
ROW 1: Sc in same ch as joining, * 2 sc in next ch, sc in next ch; rep from * across to last 3 chs, 2 sc in next ch, sc in last 2 chs (38 sc). Ch 1, turn.
ROWS 2-12: Sc in first sc, hdc in each rem st across to last sc, sc in last sc (38 sts). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 13: Sc in first sc, hdc in next 14 hdc, * dec over next 2 hdc (to dec, yo hook, draw up a lp in each of next 2 hdc - 4 lps now on hook, yo and draw through all 4 lps on hook); rep from * 3 times more, hdc in next 14 hdc, sc in last sc (34 sts). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 14: Sc in first sc, hdc in next 12 hdc, * dec over next 2 hdc; rep from * 3 times more, hdc in next 12 hdc, sc in last sc (30 sts). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 15: Sc in first sc, hdc in next 10 hdc, * dec over next 2 hdc; rep from * 3 times more, hdc in next 10 hdc, sc in last sc (26 sts). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 16: Sc in first sc, hdc in next 8 hdc, * dec over next 2 hdc; rep from * 3 times more, hdc in next 8 hdc, sc in last sc (22 sts). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 17: Sc in first sc, hdc in next 6 hdc, * dec over next 2 hdc; rep from * 3 times more, hdc in next 6 hdc, sc in last sc (18 sts). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 18: Sc in first sc, hdc in next 4 hdc, * dec over next 2 hdc; rep from * 3 times more, hdc in next 4 hdc, sc in last sc (14 sts). Finish off, leaving 10 in. sewing length. Fold last row over in half, wrong sides tog. Sew edges tog through top lps only of corresponding sts across. Weave in ends.

RUFFLE
With right side and top of hood facing you, rejoin red with sl st in center st at lower back cape edge, ch 4.
RND 1: Sk joining st, * (sl st, ch 4) twice in next st, (sl st, ch 4) in next st; rep from * in each st and row end around entire cape, join in beg ch-4 lp.  Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 2: Cut red, join black. Continuing with black, sc in same lp as joining, ch 3, (sc, ch 3) in each rem ch-4 lp around, join in first sc. Finish off, weave in ends.

CAPE FINISHING
Starting and ending on inside of cape at inner edge of ruffled trim, weave 1-yard length of ribbon through chs at neck edge (between first sc row of cape and hood). Pull ends even. Put cape on doll and tie ribbon into a bow under chin. Trim ribbon ends on an angle.

BASKET
(Note: Do not join, ch or turn at end of Basket Rnds 1-5. With contrasting yarn or small safety pin, mark first sc of Rnd 1. Move marker to first sc of each new rnd.)
Starting at center of basket bottom with gold, ch 11.
RND 1 (outside of basket): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 8 chs, 4 sc in last ch. Working around opposite side of starting ch, sc in next 8 chs, 4 sc in last ch (25 sc).
RND 2: * Sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around (30 sc).
RND 3: * Sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around (35 sc).
RND 4: Working in back lp of sts for this rnd only (front lps rem unworked - for edge of basket bottom), sc in next 4 sc, dec over next 2 sc (as in Dress Bodice Row 9), sc in next 14 sc, dec over next 2 sc, sc in last 13 sc (33 sc).
RNDS 5-8: Sc in each sc around (33 sc). At end of Rnd 8, join with sl st to first sc. Finish off.

HANDLE
Sk joining sc and next 3 sc of basket top, rejoin gold to next sc, ch 1.
ROW 1: Sc in same sc as joining and next sc, sk remainder of rnd. Ch 1, turn.
ROWS 2-15: Sc in each of 2 sc across. Ch 1, turn. At end of Row 15, do not ch 1. Finish off leaving a 4 in. end (for sewing handle to opposite side of basket top).

BASKET FINISHING
STEP 1: With base of basket handle facing you, sk next 14 sc around top of basket. With tapestry needle, sew top of basket handle to next 2 sc. Finish off, weave in ends.
STEP 2: Fill basket with fiberfill. Place and arrange a 5 in. x 4 1/2 in. (13cm x 11,5cm) piece of cotton cloth over fiberfill.
