SPECIAL STITCH: js (jump stitch): Draw up a lp in next st of previous row, below the row you are working - 2 lps
now on hook, yo and draw through both lps on hook. Do not work in the current row behind js. This will create the zigzag pattern on dress.
Note: The Music Box Doll has a cavity
in her back to hold the Electronic Music Box. The Electronic Music Box can also
be used with any of the other dolls listed, using the following instructions
for small pocket to hold the music box on either the slip or the pillow base.
MUSIC BOX POCKET
With white and size G hook, ch 4.
RND 1 (right side): Work 12 dc under top 2 strands of 4th ch
from hook, join (with a sl st) in top of beg ch-3 (12 dc- not counting ch-3).
Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 2: Sc in same ch as joining, work (hdc, dc) in next dc,
2 dc in each of next 8 dc, work (dc, hdc) in next dc, sc in last 2 dc, join in
beg sc (23 sts). Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 3: Sl st in next hdc and dc (for top edge), ch 1, sc in
next 17 dc (for round edge to be sewn to slip/pillow later), sl st in next dc
(leave rem 3 sts unworked), do not join. Finish off, leaving 18-in. sewing length.
ATTACH POCKET: Position pocket on slip/pillow at center back.
Slip music box inside pocket. Holding music box and pocket in place, use overcast
st and sew 17 sc around edge of pocket to slip/pillow, leaving top flat edge
of pocket open for inserting and removing music box. Weave in ends.
DRESS (for both pillow doll and music
box doll)
BODICE
Starting at neck edge, with peach and size G hook (or size required for gauge),
ch 33.
ROW 1 (right side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each rem ch across
(32 sc). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 2: Working in front lp (lp toward you) of sts for this row
only, 2 sc in first sc, * sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * across to
last sc, sc in last sc (48 sc). (Note:
Back lps will be used later for Shoulder Ruffle.) Ch 1, turn.
ROW 3: Sc in fist 7 sc, 2 sc in each of next 10 sc, sc in next
14 sc, 2 sc in each of next 10 sc, sc in last 7 sc (68 sc). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 4 (shape armhole): Sc in first 7 sc, ch 4, sk next 20 sc
(for left armhole), sc in next 14 sc, ch 4, sk next 20 sc (for right armhole),
sc in last 7 sc. Ch 1, turn.
ROW 5: Sc in each sc and ch across (36 sc). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 6: Sc in each sc across (36 sc). Ch 1, turn.
ROW 7: Sc in first 6 sc, dec over next 2 sc (to dec, draw up
a lp in each of next 2 sc- 3 lps now on hook, yo and draw through all 3 lps on
hook; dec made); sc in next 2 sc, * dec over next 2 sc, sc in next 3 sc; rep
from * twice more, dec over next 2 sc, sc in next 2 sc, dec over next 2 sc, sc
in last 5 sc (30 sc). Ch 1, turn.
ROWS 8-10: Sc in each sc across (30 sc). Ch 1, turn. At end
of Row 10, ch 3 (in place of ch 1), turn.
SKIRT
ROW 11: Working in back lp (lp away from you) of sts for this
row only, dc in first sc, * 2 dc in next sc, dc in next sc; rep from * across
to last sc, 2 dc in next sc, dc in next sc (45 dc- not counting ch 3). (Note:
Front lps will be used later for Waist Ruffle.) Finish off; DO NOT turn.
ROW 12: With right side still facing you, use size G hook and
rejoin peach with a sl st in top of ch-3 at beg of previous row, ch 3, * dc in
each of next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * across (60 dc). Finish off; DO
NOT TURN.
ROW 13: With right side facing you, use size G hook and rejoin
peach with a sl st in top of ch-3 at beg of previous row, ch 3, * dc in next
3 dc, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * across, JOIN with a sl st in top of beg ch-3
(75 dc). (Note: From now on, you will
be working in rnds instead of rows.) Ch 3, do not turn.
RND 14: * Dc in next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * around,
join (as before)- 90 dc. Ch 3, do not turn.
RND 15: * Dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * around,

* around, join with a sl st in top of beg ch-4 (450 trc- not counting ch 4).
Ch 4, do not turn.
RNDS 24-25: Trc in each trc around, join (as before). Ch 4,
do not turn. At end of Rnd 25, do not ch 4. Cut peach, join white. Continuing
with white, ch 3 (not counted as a dc), do not turn.
RND 26: Working in back lp of sts for this rnd only,
2 dc in each trc around, join with a sl st in top of beg ch-3. Cut white, join
pink. Continuing with pink, ch 1, do not turn.
RND 27: Sc in next dc, * ch 3, sk next dc, sc in next dc; rep
from * around to last dc, ch 3, sk last dc, join with a sl st in beg sc. Finish
off and weave in ends.
WAIST RUFFLE
With right side and neck edge of bodice facing you, use size G hook and join
peach with a sl st in first lp left unworked in Row 11 of Skirt (at right back
edge).
ROW 1: Ch 4 (not counted as a trc), 2 trc in same lp as joining,
* 3 trc in next lp, 2 trc in next lp; rep from * across to last lp, 3 trc in
last lp (75 trc- not counting ch 4). Finish off; DO NOT turn.
ROW 2: With right side still facing you, use size G hook and
rejoin peach with a sl st in top of ch-4 at beg of previous row, ch 4, * 2 trc
in next trc, trc in each of next 2 trc; rep from * across, JOIN with a sl st
in top of beg ch-4 (100 trc). (Note:
From now on, you will be working in rnds instead of rows.) Ch 4, do not turn.
RND 3: Trc in each trc around, join (as before)- 100 trc. Cut
peach, join white. Continuing with white, ch 3 (not counted as a dc), do not
turn.
RNDS 4-5: Rep Rnds 26-27 of Bottom Ruffle on Skirt.
CENTER RUFFLE
With right side and neck edge of bodice facing you, use size G hook and join
peach with a sl st in first lp left unworked in Rnd 17 of Skirt.
RND 1: Ch 4 (not counted as a trc), 2 trc in same lp as joining,
* 3 trc in next lp, 2 trc in next lp; rep from * around to last lp, 3 trc in
last lp, join with a sl st in top of beg ch-4 (300 trc- not counting ch 4). Ch
4, do not turn.
RNDS 2-5: Rep Rnds 24-27 of Bottom Ruffle on Skirt.
ARMHOLE TRIM (make 2)
With right side facing you, use size G hook and join white with a sl st in 3rd
ch at underarm.
RND 1: Ch 1, sc in same ch as joining and next ch. Working in
back lp only of next 20 sc (sts skipped for armhole in Row 4 of Bodice),
sc in next sc, hdc in next sc, dc in next 16 sc, hdc in next sc, sc in next sc.
Sc in rem 2 chs at underarm, join with a sl st in beg sc (24 sts). (Note:
Front lps are left unworked.) Cut white, join pink. Continuing with pink, ch
1, do not turn.
RND 2: Sc in same sc as joining, * ch 3, sk next st, sc in next
st; rep from * around to last sc, ch 3, sk last sc, join with a sl st in beg
sc. Finish off and wave in ends.
NECK EDGING
With peach and size G hook, make a slip knot on hook. Then with right side of
bodice facing you, sl st in each ch around neck edge. Finish off and weave in
ends.
SHOULDER RUFFLE With right side and neck edge of bodice facing
you, use size G hook and join white with a sl st in first lp left unworked in
Row 2 of Bodice (at right back edge).
ROW 1: Ch 3 (not counted as a dc), 2 dc in same lp as joining
and each rem lp across (64 dc- not counting ch 3). Cut white; DO NOT turn.
ROW 2: With right side still facing you, use size G hook and
join pink with a sl st in top of ch-3 at beg of previous row, ch 1, sc in same
ch, * ch 3, sk next dc, sc in next dc; rep from * across. Finish off and weave
in ends.
PEACH BLOSSOMS (make 40)
With white and size F hook, ch 4, dc under top 2 strands of 4th ch from hook,
ch 3, sl st back into same ch (first petal made), * ch 3, dc in same ch, ch 3,
sl st in same ch (another petal made); rep from * 3 times more (5 petals now
made). Finish off and weave in ends on wrong side.
FINISHING
STEP 1: Attach one blossom to front of shoulder ruffle as follows: thread at least 18-in. strand of pink into needle. Using 2 strands, leave 2-in. ends, draw needle and yarn down through st at center top of blossom, then through white st at center front of shoulder ruffle and st on bodice directly underneath.
STEP 2: Draw needle and yarn back out through bodice, shoulder
ruffle, and another st at center of blossom. Cut yarn, leaving 2-in. ends.
STEP 3: Tightly knot ends of one pink strand at top of blossom,
then knot ends of other pink strand next to first knot. Trim ends 1/2 in. from
knots (first blossom now attached).
STEP 4: Attach 6 blossoms evenly spaced around waist ruffle
of skirt between 2nd and 3rd trc rnds in same manner as previous blossom. (Note:
attach blossoms to ruffle only- not skirt underneath).
STEP 5: Attatch 12 blossoms evenly spaced to center ruffle on
skirt between 2nd and 3rd trc rnds.
STEP 6: Attach 16 blossoms evenly spaced to bottom ruffle on
skirt between last 2 trc rnds. Set rem 5 blossoms aside for headband.
STEP 7: Cut 39 pieces of chartreuse ribbon, each 5 in. long.
Tie one ribbon around st below and underneath each blossom on dress and knot
securely. Trim ends on an angle. Set 4 rem ribbon pieces aside for headband.
STEP 8: Make 2 belt lps as follows: use size G hook and peach,
leave 2-in. end, ch 4, finish off leaving 2-in. end. Attach one belt lp to each
side of bodice as follows: draw one yarn end through sc at waist to wrong side
and other end through st in 3rd row directly above; knot ends securely and trim.
Place remaining length of ribbon through belt loops, leaving ends at center back.
Trim ends on an angle.
STEP 9: With sewing needle and matching thread, sew 4 sets of
hooks and eyes evenly spaced to back opening on bodice between neck edge and
waist. (Note: If desired, dress can
be sewn onto doll; or if a buttoned closure is preferred, work an edging of sc
evenly spaced around back opening with ch-lps along one edge for the button lps.
Later sew on buttons opposite button lps.) Set dress aside.
PILLOW BASE (for pillow doll only)
PILLOW TOP
Starting at waist edge, with white and size G hook, ch 30, join with a sl st
in beg ch to form a ring.
RND 1 (right side): Ch 1, sc in same ch as joining and each
rem ch around, join with a sl st in beg ch-1 (30 sc- not counting ch 1). Ch 2,
do not turn.
RND 2: * Hdc in each of next 2 sc, 2 hdc in next sc; rep from
* around, join with a sl st in top of beg ch-2 (40 hdc - not counting ch 2).
Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 3: * Hdc in next 3 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around,
join (as before)- 50 hdc. Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 4: * Hdc in next 4 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around,
join (60 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 5: * Hdc in next 5 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around,
join (70 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 6: * Hdc in next 6 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around,
join (80 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 7: * Hdc in next 7 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around,
join (90 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 8: Hdc in next 4 hdc, * 2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next 8
hdc; rep from * around to last 5 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in last 4 hdc, join
(100 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 9: * Hdc in next 9 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around,
join (110 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 10: * Hdc in next 10 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from *
around, join (120 hdc). Ch 2, do nto turn.
RND 11: * Hdc in next 11 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from *
around, join (130 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 12: Hdc in next 6 hdc, * 2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next
12 hdc; rep from * around to last 7 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in last 6 hdc,
join (140 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 13: * Hdc in next 13 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from *
around, join (150 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 14: * Hdc in next 14 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from *
around, join (160 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 15: Hdc in next 7 hdc, * 2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next
15 hdc; rep from * around to last 9 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in last 8 hdc,
join (170 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 16: Working in back lp of sts for this rnd only,
hdc in each hdc around, join (170 hdc). (Note: Front
lps will be used for Pillow Ruffle.) Finish off and weave in ends.
PILLOW RUFFLE
With right side and waist edge of Pillow Top facing you, use size G hook and
join white with a sl st in first lp left unworked in Rnd 16.
RND 1: Ch 4 (not counted as a trc), 2 trc in same lp as joining
and each rem unworked lp around, join with a sl st in top of beg ch-4 (340 trc-
not counting ch 4). Ch 4, do not turn.
RNDS 2-3: Trc in each trc around, join (as before) -340 trc.
Ch 4, do not turn. At end of Rnd 3, ch 1 (in place of ch 4), do not turn.
RND 4: Sc in next trc, * ch 4, sk next trc, sc in next trc;
rep from * around to last trc, ch 4, sk last trc, join with a sl st in beg sc.
Finish off and weave in ends. Set pillow top aside.
PILLOW BOTTOM
Starting at center, with white and size G hook, ch 3.
RND 1 (right side): Work 10 hdc in 3rd ch from hook, join with
a sl st in top of beg ch-2 (10 hdc- not counting ch 2). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 2: Work 2 hdc in each hdc around, join (as before) - 20
hdc. Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 3: * Hdc in next hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around,
join (30 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 4: * Hdc in each of next 2 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from
* around, join (40 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RNDS 5-17: Rep Rnds 3-15 of Pillow Top. At end of Rnd 15 of
Pillow Top, do not ch 2. Finish off, leaving 3-yds. sewing length.
PILLOW ASSEMBLY
STEP 1: Thread 22 in. strand of white into needle. Starting
at center back (where rnds were joined), weave yarn in and out of chs around
waist edge of pillow top. Position pillow top into pillow doll. Pull yarn ends
up tightly at back waist of doll and knot securely. Weave in ends.
STEP 2: Turn doll upside down. Hot glue first rnd of sc on pillow
top to doll’s waist, slightly below navel. (Note:
This step is necessary to keep pillow top from riding up after pillow is stuffed.)
STEP 3: Position pillow bottom in place, having right side of
sts on outside of pillow. Carefully match sts around outer edge of pillow bottom
with sts of Rnd 16 of pillow top (under ruffle). Thread sewing length left at
end of pillow bottom into needle and sew pieces tog through both lps of matching
sts 3/4 of the way around.
STEP 4: Firmly stuff front half of pillow.
STEP 5: Thread 2 yds. of white into needle. Using 2 strands,
leave 8-in. ends loose at bottom of pillow, draw needle and yarn through 4-hole
button and first rnd at center of pillow bottom, next through lp at bottom of
doll’s body, back down through first rnd of pillow bottom and 4-hole button.
Leave ends loose at bottom of pillow.
STEP 6: Finish stuffing pillow and close rem seam.
STEP 7: Pull yarn ends at bottom of pillow with a medium tension
and tie once at top of button. With needle, draw yarn ends through 2 rem holes
of button and knot securely underneath button. Weave in ends, then shape top
of pillow into a plump, well-rounded skirt. Dress doll and tie ribbon into a
small bow at center back of waist, leaving ends to fall down length of skirt.
SLIP (for pillow doll only)
Starting at waist edge, with white and size G hook, ch 30, join with a sl st
in beg ch to form a ring (being careful not to twist ch).
RNDS 1-15: Rep Rnds 1-15 of Pillow Top. At end of Rnd 15, ch
4 (in place of ch 2- not counted as a trc), do not turn.
BOTTOM RUFFLE
RND 16: Work 2 trc in each hdc around, join with a sl st in
top of beg ch-4 (340 trc- not counting ch 4). Ch 4, do not turn.
RNDS 17-19: Trc in each trc around, join (as before)- 340 trc.
Ch 4, do not turn. At end of Rnd 19, ch 1 (in place of ch 4), do not turn.
RND 20: Sc in next trc, * ch 4, sk next trc, sc in next trc;
rep from * around to last trc, ch 4, sk last trc, join with a sl st in beg sc.
Finish off and weave in ends. Starting and ending on inside, weave elastic through
sc of Rnd 1 at waist. Put slip on doll with waist edge slightly above doll’s
waist. Pull ends of elastic up tightly and knot securely. Trim ends 1/2-in. from
knot and slip knot to inside.
Dress doll and tie ribbon into a small bow at center back of waist, leaving ends
to fall down length of skirt.
HEADBAND (for both pillow doll and music box doll)
With peach and size G hook, ch 30, sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 27 chs, work
(sc, ch 1, sc) in last ch.
Working along opposite side of starting ch, sc in 28 chs across, join with a
sl st in beg sc. Do not finish off, ch 35 (for one tie). Finish off; DO NOT turn.
Work other tie as follows: with right side of sts of headband still facing you,
use size G hook and rejoin peach with a sl st in ch at center of (sc, ch 1, sc)
group at opposite end of band, ch 35, finish off. Knot and trim yarn close to
end of each tie.
EDGING
With right side facing you, use size G hook and join pink with a sl st in sc
before either tie of headband, ch 1, sc in same sc, ch 3, sk tie, sc ne next
sc, * ch 3, sk next sc, sc in next sc; rep from * across to either tie, ch 3,
sk tie, sc in next sc, ** ch 3, sk next sc, sc in next sc; rep from ** to last
sc, ch 3, sk last sc, join with a sl st in beg sc. Finish off and wave in ends.
FINISHING
STEP 1: Attach 5 blossoms evenly spaced across top of headband in the same manner as blossoms attached to dress.
STEP 2: With four rem 5-in. pieces of ribbon, tie one ribbon around center st of each sp between blossoms on headband and knot securely. Trim ends 3/4 in. from knots and on an angle.
STEP 3: Place headband on doll’s head and tie under hair at center back of neck.
