DRESS FINISHING
STEP 1: Sew 3 sets hooks and eyes to back dress opening: one set at neck edge, one set at waist, and one set that is evenly spaced between.
STEP 2 (Beads):

  1. Working around Skirt Rnds 17-19 and Rnds 21-23 (skipping Rnd 20 – will be used for fringe), using beading needle (or very fine sewing needle) and white thread, sew in order from ch-2 sp out – one silver, one red, one turquoise, and one silver giant seed bead to base of each rnd on either side and close to each ch-2 sp (Figure 1).

  2. Sew 1 giant seed bead to each sc across Bodice Row 1 (being careful not to sew to unworked lps from Row 2), starting with silver at left back neck opening and alternating colors (1 silver, 1 red, 1 turquoise) – 30 beads.
  3. Keeping same color order as across neck, sew 1 giant seed bead to each sl st around bottom edge of sleeve (12 beads).
STEP 3 (fringe):

  1. With bottom edge of skirt facing you, latch hook one 7-in. piece of yarn to each unworked lp across Bodice Row 2 (Figure 2).

  2. Latch hook one 7-in. piece of yarn to unworked lps around Skirt Rnds 16 and 20 (including front lps of
2 skipped dc between sets of beads), skipping first 2 lps on either side of ch-2 sps.
  3. Latch hook two 7-in. pieces of yarn tog to ch-2 sp at each point around skirt bottom and one 7-in. piece to back lp only of each dc around skirt bottom. Trim all fringe to 2 in.
  4. Working in a straight line up sleeve underarm, latch hook one 7-in. piece of yarn to one sc of last 7 rnds.
STEP 4: Place dress on doll.

BELT
Leaving a 2-in. starting length, ch 50. Finish off, leaving a 2-in. end.

BELT FINISHING
STEP 1: Place belt around doll’s waist with ends in front. Pull ends even. Pass ends through heart concho, crossing one end over the other. Pull ends so belt fits waist snugly.
STEP 2 (beads): Thread one 2-in. end into tapestry needle. String on 1 silver, 1 red, and 1 silver pony bead. Push beads about 2 in. onto ch strand. Knot yarn close to ch. Trim end close to knot. Rep for other ch end.
STEP 3 (feathers): Trim 2 white all-purpose feathers to 3 in. Hot glue top of 1 feather to each end of ch. Pull beads down over top of each feather. Move concho to right side of waist.

MOCCASINS (make 2)
Starting at center of sole, ch 7.
RND 1 (right side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 4 chs, 3 sc in last ch. Working around opposite side of starting ch, sc in next 4 chs, 2 sc in last ch, join to first sc (14 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.

RND 5: Sc in same sc as joining and next 3 sc, (dec over next 2 sc) 3 times, sc in last 7 sc, join (14 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 6: Sc in same sc as joining and next 2 sc, (dec over next 2 sc) 2 times, sc in last 7 sc, join (12 sc). Finish off, weave in ends.
(Note: You will now start working in rows instead of rnds.)
With right side facing you, sk same sc as joining and next 4 sc, rejoin yarn to next (6th) sc, ch 1.
ROW 7: Sc in same sc as joining and next 6 sc, sk joining sl st, sc in next 4 sc, sk last sc (using contrasting yarn or small safety pin, mark this skipped sc – for start of laces) (11 sc). Do not ch, turn.
ROWS 8-14: Sc in each sc across (11 sc). Do not ch, turn.
ROW 15: Sl st in each sc across (11 st sts). Finish off, weave in ends.

MOCCASINS FINISHING

STEP 3: Weave a 24-in. piece of yarn through marked sc (skipped in Row 7). Remove marker. Pull ends even. Place boot on doll’s foot. Using tapestry needle and working into sc row ends, lace boot tightly up front opening. Tie lace ends into a 1-1/2-in. bow at top of boot. Knot yarn ends about 1in. from bow (to keep from unraveling), trim ends close to knot. Rep for other boot.

HEADDRESS AND VEIL
Leaving a 3-in. starting length (for sewing back seam), ch 31. (Wrong side will be facing you as you work.) Sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 28 chs, 3 sc in last ch. Working around opposite side of starting ch, sc in each ch across, join to first sc (61 sc). Ch 20 (for center back veil ch), finish off leaving a 2-in. end.

HEADDRESS AND VEIL FINISHING
STEP 1: With right side facing to the outside, use 3-in. starting length to sew headdress ends closed (forming a circle).
STEP 2 (beads): Sew giant seed beads across center of headdress in zigzag pattern as shown in Figure 4, skipping 2 sc between silver beads at top and bottom.

STEP 3 (veil chs): With right side and top of headdress facing you, sk one sc next to center veil ch and join yarn to next sc, ch 20, finish off leaving a 2-in. end. Weave in starting end. Skipping one sc between veil chs, rep procedure making
4 veil chs on either side of center veil ch (9 veil chs).
STEP 4: String beads and glue feathers using same procedures as for Belt Steps 2-3.

TRADING BEADS
Cut 39-in. black cord into three 13-in. (33cm) pieces. String 24 assorted colored giant seed beads onto 1 piece. Tie a double knot so bead strand hangs about 3-1/2-in. long (refer to photo on book cover). Trim ends close to knot. Rep with 2 more strands. Hang all 3 strands from doll’s left hand. Optional: Tuck knots into sleeve.
