TAIL
Cut a 57-in. piece of black yarn. Leaving a 2-in. beg length, alternating 1 red, 1 green, 1 yellow and 1 blue bow (keeping the color order the same throughout) and spacing bows approximately 2 in. apart, tie black yarn in double knot around center of each of 16 bows, leaving a 2-in. end (trim end if necessary). Set tail aside.
KITE FINISHING
STEP 1: Cut a 4-1/2-in. and 6-in. piece from a 12-in. dowel rod. Hot glue wrong side of widest row (Row 8) of kite to each end of 4-1/2 in. piece of dowel rod. Hot glue wrong side of top and bottom of kite to each end of 6-in. piece of dowel rod (dowel rod pieces will cross in back of kite).
STEP 2: Make 1 coil near top of 18-in. piece of 18-gauge cloth-covered stem wire. Make 1 coil just above half way point of wire. Using pliers, tightly wind the tip of coiled end around the 2 pieces of dowel rod where they cross. Tightly wind the other end of wire around doll’s left hand (Optional: If kite will not stay in doll’s hand, the wire can be wound around doll’s wrist).
STEP 3: Place a small knot at one end of tail yarn. With sewing needle and black thread, sew this knotted end to bottom point of kite. Starting on doll’s left side and working across the front, loosely drape remainder of kite tail around skirt as far as it will go, sewing center of each bow in place as you work around (see photo). Let black yarn end hang down back of skirt. Trim black yarn end even with bottom of skirt.
HAIR BOWS (make 2)
With yellow, rep kite bows. Remove ribbon bows from doll’s ponytails. Wrap a 6-in. piece of yellow yarn around center of crocheted hair bow and tie once. Wrap ribbon around ponytail, keeping bows on top. Tie yarn ends into a double knot under ponytail and trim slightly. Rep with 2nd bow and other ponytail.
