SPECIAL STITCH: js (jump stitch): Draw up a lp in next st of previous row, below the row you are working - 2 lps now on hook, yo and draw through both lps on hook. Do not work in the current row behind js. This will create the zigzag pattern on dress.



PANTS
Starting just below waist with cream crochet cotton and size 6 steel crochet hook (or size required for gauge), ch 60. Being careful not to twist ch length, join with sl st to first ch to form a large circle, ch 3.
RND 1 (right side): Dc in same ch as joining and each rem ch around, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3 (60 dc – not counting beg ch-3). Ch 3, do not turn.
RND 2: * Dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * around, join (70 dc – not counting beg ch-3). Ch 3, do not turn.
RNDS 3-7 Dc in each dc around, join (70 dc). Ch 3, do not turn. At end of Rnd 7, ch 7 (in place of ch 3 – for crotch), do not turn.

LEFT LEG
RND 8: Sk first 35 dc (for right leg), (sl st, ch 3, dc) in next dc, dc in next 34 dc, dc in 7 chs across crotch, join (42 dc – not counting beg ch-3). Ch 3, do not turn.
RNDS 9-26: Dc in each dc around, join (42 dc). Ch 3, do not turn. At end of Rnd 26, do not ch 3. Cut cream, join rust. Continuing with rust, ch 3, do not turn.
RND 27: Dc in each dc around, join (42 dc). Cut rust, join purple. Continuing with purple, ch 3, do not turn.
RND 28: Rep Rnd 27. Cut purple, join jade. Continuing with jade, ch 3, do not turn.
RND 29: Rep Rnd 27. Cut jade, join black. Continuing with black, ch 1, do not turn.
RND 30: Sc in each dc around, join to first sc (42 sc). Finish off, weave in all ends.

RIGHT LEG
With right side and waist edge facing you, join cream to first skipped dc from Left Leg Rnd 8 (next to left leg), ch 3.
RND 1: Dc in same dc as joining and next 34 dc around, dc in 7 chs across crotch, join to top of beg ch-3 (42 dc – not counting beg ch-3). Ch 3, do not turn.
RND 2-23: Rep Left Leg Rnds 9-30.

BACK WAIST
With right side and bottom of pant legs facing you, join cream to 12th ch at waist edge to right of center back seam, ch 3.
ROW 1: Sk joining ch, dc in next 11 chs, sk joining sl st at center seam, dc in next 12 chs (23 dc – not counting beg ch-3). Ch 3, turn.
ROW 2: Dc in next 23 dc, dc in top of ch-3 (24 dc). Finish off, weave in ends.

FRONT WAIST
With right side and bottom of pant legs facing you, sk 6 chs from end of back waist, join cream to next ch, ch 3.
ROW 1: Sk joining ch, dc in next 23 chs (23 dc). Ch 3, turn.
ROW 2: Rep Back Waist Row 2.

PANT FLAPS (make 2)
Starting at top of flap (waist edge) with cream, ch 18.
ROW 1 (right side): Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and each rem ch across (16 hdc – not counting beg ch-2). Ch 2, turn.
ROWS 2-7: Hdc in each hdc across (16 hdc). Ch 2, turn. At end of Row 7, do not ch 2. Finish off cream, do not turn.
ROW 8: With right side still facing you, join rust to top of ch-2 at beg of previous row, ch 3. Dc in each hdc across (16 dc). Finish off rust, do not turn.
ROW 9: Join purple to top of beg ch-3 at beg of previous row, ch 3. Dc in each dc across (16 dc). Finish off purple, do not turn.
ROW 10: Join jade to top of beg ch-3, ch 3. Dc in each dc across (16 dc). Finish off jade, do not turn.
ROW 11: Join black to top of beg ch-3, ch 1. Sc in each dc across (16 sc). Finish off, weave in all ends.

PANTS FINISHING
STEP 1: With black, leaving a 2" (5cm) end (for threading beads), ch 45 (for waist tie). Continuing with same crochet cotton, holding pants with right side and pant legs facing you, sc in first 4 chs at back waist edge. Place 1 pants flap over pants back with right side facing you and waist edges matching. Matching sts, sc flap to next 16 chs of pants waist, sc in last 4 chs of pants waist, ch 45 (for waist tie). Finish off leaving a 2" end (for threading beads). Rep for other flap and front waist edge.
STEP 2: Thread 4 seed beads of varying colors from beading kit onto each waist tie. Push beads up high onto chs and knot tie about 1/2" (1.3cm) from end of ch. Knot thread ends close to ch and trim close. Pull beads down to top knot.
STEP 3 (Flap Fringe): Cut twelve 5" (13cm) pieces of black crochet cotton. Cut fourteen 5" pieces each of rust, purple, and jade. Working from wrong side of flap to right side, latch hook (Figure 1) 3 pieces of black tog to first and to last sc at bottom of flap. Latch hook 1 rust, 1 purple, and 1 jade tog to next sc (next to black fringe) and then to every 2nd sc between black fringes across bottom. Trim fringe even to 11/2" (3.8cm). Rep latch hook procedure with rem cut pieces of crochet cotton on other flap.
STEP 4: Remove fabric loin cloth from Chief. Place pants on doll. Tie waist ties into a small bow at each side of waist, allowing beaded ends to hang down.












ARMBANDS (make 2)
Starting at top of armband with rust, ch 22. Being careful not to twist ch length, join to first sc to form a circle, ch 2.
RND 1 (right side): Hdc in same ch as joining and each rem ch around, join to top of beg ch-2 (22 hdc – not counting beg ch-2). Cut rust, join purple. Continuing with purple, ch 2, do not turn.
RND 2: Hdc in each hdc around, join (22 hdc). Cut purple, join jade. Continuing with jade, ch 2, do not turn.
RND 3: Rep Armbands Rnd 2. Cut jade, join black. Continuing with black, ch 1, do not turn.
RND 4: Sc in each hdc around, join to first sc (22 sc). Finish off, turn armband upside down.
RND 5: Join black to first rust ch at joining seam at top of armband, ch 1. Sc in same ch as joining and each rem ch around, join (22 sc). Finish off, weave in all ends.

ARMBAND FRINGES
Cut twenty-two 5" (12.7cm) pieces each of rust, purple, and jade crochet cotton. Working from wrong side of armband to right side, latch hook 1 piece of each color tog every 2nd sc around bottom of armband. Trim fringe even to 11/2" (3.8cm). Rep latch hook procedure with rem cut pieces of crochet cotton on other armband. Place 1 armband high on each arm with joining seam at underarm. (Armband will fit snugly.) Let fringe hang down arm.

HEADBAND
Starting at top of headband with rust, ch 65. Being careful not to twist ch length, join to first ch to form a large circle, ch 2.
RNDS 1-3: Rep Armbands Rnds 1-3 (65 hdc).
RND 4: Sc in first 23 hdc (with contrasting thread or small safety pin, mark last sc worked – for headband tassel), sc in next 19 hdc (mark last sc worked – for tassel), sc in each rem hdc around, join to first sc (65 sc). Finish off, turn headband upside down.
RND 5: Join black to first rust ch at joining seam at top of headband, ch 1. Sc in same ch as joining and each rem ch around, join (65 sc). Finish off, weave in ends.

HEADBAND FINISHING
STEP 1 (Fringe): Cut four 10" (25.4cm) pieces each of rust, purple, and jade crochet cotton. Working from wrong side of headband to right side, latch hook 2 pieces of each color tog in each marked sc at bottom of headband. Remove markers.
STEP 2: Hot glue two 31/4" (8.2cm) jewelry feathers side by side, with turquoise side facing forward, to inside of headband at joining seam.
STEP 3: Place headband on doll’s head with feathers to the back, centering 2 long tassels on either side of forehead. (Headband will fit snugly.) Trim tassel ends even with tops of armbands.

MOCCASINS (make 2)
Starting at bottom of sole with rust and size 2 steel crochet hook (or size required for gauge), ch 15.
RND 1 (right side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 12 chs, 3 sc in last ch. Working around opposite side of starting ch, sc in next 12 chs, 2 sc in last ch, join to first sc (30 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 2: Work 2 sc in joining sc, sc in next 12 sc, 2 sc in next 3 sc, sc in next 12 sc, 2 sc in last 2 sc, join (36 sc). Ch 1, do not turn. 3 dc in last lp (40 dc – not counting beg ch-3). Finish off, do not turn.
RNDS 3-6: Sc in joining sc and each rem sc around, join (36 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.
ch 3. Dc in each dc across (40 dc). Finish off, do not turn. At end of Row 3, do not finish off. Join to top of beg ch-3 (to close back opening). Ch 3, do not turn.
RND 7: Working in back lp of sts for this rnd only (front lps will be used for trim), sc in joining sc and next 13 sc, * dec over next 2 sc (to dec: draw up a lp in next 2 sts – 3 lps now on hook, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook); rep from * 3 times more, sc in last 14 sc, join (32 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 8: Sc in joining sc and next 11 sc, (dec over next 2 sc) 4 times (toe end), sc in last 12 sc, join (28 sc). Ch 1, do not turn.
RND 9: Sc in joining sc and next 9 sc, dec over next 2 sc (mark this sc – for start of “collar”), (dec over next 2 sc) 3 times more, sc in last 10 sc, join (24 sc). Finish off, turn.
RND 10 (“Collar”): With wrong side of work facing you, working in back lp of sts only (front lps rem unworked), join rust to marked sc, ch 3 (remove marker). Sk joining sc, dc in next 10 sc, sk joining sl st at back seam, dc in next 11 sc (21 dc – not counting beg ch-3). Finish off, weave in ends.

MOCCASINS FINISHING
STEP 1 (Trim): Using tapestry needle and a 10" (25.4cm) piece of black crochet cotton, beg at inside center back leaving a 11/2" (3.8cm) end, whip st around each unworked lp from Moccasin Rnd 7, ending inside center back leaving a 11/2" end. Tie 2 ends tog securely and trim close. Rep for other moccasin.
STEP 2: Thread 3 different colored seed beads onto a 3" (7.6cm) piece of black crochet cotton. Pulling ends through to wrong side, attach beads to toe end of moccasin just inside black trim. Knot ends securely on wrong side and trim close. Rep for other moccasin using the same color beads in reverse order.
STEP 3: Thread a 5" (12.7cm) piece of black crochet cotton through 2 skipped sc from Moccasin Rnd 10 at front of moccasin. Place moccasin on doll’s foot. Tie black ends in a double knot and then in a bow. Fold “collar” to right side. Rep for other moccasin.

JEWELRY


CHOKER NECKLACE (Figure 2)
STEP 1: Cut a 24" (61cm) piece of black crochet cotton, fold piece in half. Knot doubled piece 51/2" (14cm) from each end (the 2 knots will be about 1/4" [6mm] apart at center of 12" [30.5cm] piece). Thread 3 black giant seed beads onto each end and slide toward center knots. Place a knot next to each set of beads.
STEP 2 (Fringe): Cut two 3" (7.6cm) pieces of rust and four 3" pieces of jade crochet cotton. Holding 2 pieces of rust tog, latch hook over center of black crochet cotton, between 2 center knots. Latch hook 2 pieces of jade tog on either side of rust. Trim fringe ends to 1" (2.5cm).
STEP 3: Tie choker in double knot close around doll’s neck. Trim ends.



















PENDANT (Figure 3)
Cut eight 18" (46cm) pieces of black crochet cotton. Holding all 8 pieces tog, using thin wire (or beading threader), pull ends through 1 turquoise pony bead. Pull ends even and tie a double knot just above bead. Thread all 16 ends through a 2nd pony bead. Separate strands into 2 groups of 8 strands each, tie a double knot just above 2nd bead. Tie strands around doll’s neck so pendant hangs just below choker fringe. Trim back ends to about 1" (2.5cm).



















LONG NECKLACE (Figure 4)
STEP 1: Cut two 22" (56cm) pieces each of black, jade, purple, and rust crochet cotton. Holding all 8 pieces tog, using threader, pull ends through 1 turquoise pony bead. Slide bead to center and tie a knot close to and on either side of bead. Working up both sides of necklace, * make a knot about 11/4" (3cm) from last knot on same side. Thread a pony bead and tie another knot next to bead; rep from * once more (a total of 5 pony beads and 10 knots).
STEP 2: Cut eight 5" (12.7cm) pieces of black and four 5" pieces of rust crochet cotton. Between each 2 pony beads, latch hook 1 black, 1 rust, and 1 black, in that order. Thread 3 black seed beads on each doubled black strand and 3 orange seed beads on each doubled rust strand. Slide beads up to latch hook knot. Knot doubled strands below and close to each set of beads. Cut strand ends 1/4" (6mm) below bottom knot.
STEP 3: Tie necklace around neck with bottom center pony bead hanging about 1/2" (1.3cm) above pants waist. Using a 3" (7.6cm) piece of black crochet cotton, tie all 3 necklaces tog at back knots (to hold in place). Trim ends.
















RAINMAKING STAFF

CLOUD
Starting at center of cloud with cream crochet cotton and size 6 steel crochet hook, ch 3.
RND 1 (right side): Work 10 hdc in 3rd ch from hook, join to top of beg ch-2 (10 hdc – not counting beg ch-2). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 2: Work 2 hdc in each hdc around, join (20 hdc – not counting beg ch-2). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 3 * Hdc in next hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around, join (30 hdc – not counting beg ch-2). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 4: * Hdc in next 2 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around, join (40 hdc – not counting beg ch-2). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 5: * Hdc in next 3 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around, join (50 hdc – not counting beg ch-2). Ch 2, do not turn.
RNDS 6-7: Hdc in each hdc around, join (50 hdc). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 8: * Hdc dec over next 2 hdc (to hdc dec: yo and draw up a lp in next 2 sts – 4 lps now on hook, yo and draw through all 4 lps on hook); rep from * around, join (25 hdc – not counting beg ch-2). Ch 2, do not turn.
RND 9: Working in back lp of sts only (front lps will be used for “rain”), (hdc dec over next 2 hdc) 12 times, hdc in last hdc, join (13 hdc – not counting beg ch-2). Finish off leaving a 12" (30.5cm) end for sewing cloud closed later.

RAINMAKING STAFF FINISHING
STEP 1 (Optional): Stain (or paint) a 12" (30.5cm) long, 1/4" (6mm) dia. dowel rod. Allow to dry.
STEP 2: Using tapestry needle, weave long crochet cotton end through sts from Cloud Rnd 9 (last rnd). Do not close cloud at this time. Using back end of crochet hook, stuff cloud with fiberfill. Set aside.
STEP 3 (“Rain”): Cut thirteen 12" pieces each of jade, purple, and rust crochet cotton. Inserting hook from cloud opening outward, latch hook 1 piece of each color tog in first unworked lp from Cloud Rnd 9 at joining seam and to every 2nd unworked lp around.
STEP 4: Insert tip of dowel rod onto fiberfill at center of cloud. Pull long end of crochet cotton to close cloud tightly around fiberfill. Finish off, knot securely, trim end. Place a drop of hot glue around base of cloud at dowel rod (to hold in place).
